  3. Love your words Kari...a lot hit home for me. You have encouraged me and given me some areas to think about and work on doing differently. Self-care and sacrifice---powerful words! Going to journal what they should look like for me. Thanks!

  4. Me too. You always say it so well. For help with boundaries and weight loss, Check out Barb Raveling’s books, website, if you haven’t already. As well as the I Deserve A Donut app she has. She is all about renewing your mind- take out the lies and replace with truth. I’ve got every book she’s written and her way works like a charm if you do what she says.

    1. Barb is the one who has really changed how I think about food and boundaries! I love her stuff and her blog so much. I'm currently working (again) for Taste for Truth. I think I should have it by now, but these deep seated sins aren't easy to kill. I feel like Barb is a mentor reminding me that it's not my strength but His.

  5. Now I'm on my computer and can type more. LOL. This is so me- if you want someone to journey with you, reach out. I love your blog, your words, your guidance. I love that you said we aren't to give ourselves grace we are to ask for God to GIVE us grace. When I said I wanted my words of the year to be "Identity in Christ" I was given self care as a way to honor that. I've struggled with insecurity and weight problems my entire life and I am wanting to soak in what God says about me. Not for the purpose of "self care" which is what my well-intentioned family member thought I should do, but so that I can become the person God wants me to be- so I can be a light for others and carry out His purpose for my life. So I STOP being lost in the mess that is me and START shining the light that is Christ in me.
Seriously though, Barb Raveling Kari. Check her out. :)

  6. Thank you,Kari. So,you got me on a couple things...like waiting on kids/others to get it....I been waiting so long I often forget to pray.like try harder. I was raised that way.like feeling exhausted and sitting around.for a while. Not good or productive. We are all waiting for Jesus to come back, right? I’m with you. Let’s wait well. Love and thanks, kara

    1. Yes, let's wait well. It's hard to learn how to do, but He gives us grace.

  7. I appreciate you post Kari. I am glad I read it because I would have missed the deeper meaning of your choice. I have been reflecting on my "laziness" lately with the newly acquired knowledge that I have several underdeveloped executive function skills. I am coming to understand the it has two roots, for me. Lack of self care, in that I don't give myself time to play and enjoy life. I "don't have time to play" because I always have too much work to do. Which is a result of lacking the skill of planning. This kind of planning is what are the steps I need to take to get the job done. So what looks like laziness on the surface is a lack of knowledge of what to do to start. It has been an interesting discovery in God,s perfect timing.

    1. Well, that sounds like a great start! Now we just have to keep practicing the 'die to self' and not trying harder, right?

  8. Wow - although difficult to read, your thoughts on self care from a Biblical perspective vs the current definition is eye-opening! Need to print this out so I can re-read it when the "me first" attitude shows up again.
