Stone Soup for Five: {week 28} what I'm listening to, watching, & playing + a question for you

{week 28} what I'm listening to, watching, & playing + a question for you

Watching:
A few months ago, we finished a really good Netflix series about the time right after Christ's crucifixion, AD Kingdom and Empire.  After watching it we found out there is an earlier one, The Bible, also on Netflix.  And I recently heard of the new series called The Chosen, but wasn't nearly as impressed with it, though it wasn't completely terrible.  I think the modern sayings like "level the playing field" and "Wow, stop the papyrus, Peter has an idea!" were really annoying, and threw me off.

Listening:
I learned of a great new podcast called Extremities. It's a fascinating show about people living in isolated and extreme environments.  The first series is six episodes all about Pitcairn Island.  Pitcairn is isolated in the middle of the South Pacific with a population of 50.  The podcast talks about the history (and its ties to the Mutiny on the Bounty), how people get to and from the island (it costs thousands of dollars and at least 3 days at sea), how the locals live, govern, and run the island, among other things.  I'm really loving it!

Cooking:
I am looking for some grill recipes and still have not found a good carne asada recipe that I love.  If you have one, please send me a link!  This week I'm going to try this one, with the homemade tortillas.

Playing:
Our friends got us hooked on the new Harry Potter: Wizards Unite app.  It's like Pokemon GO but for Harry Potter fans.  I don't really understand all the fine details, but it is fun to do on the long summer nights.

Habit:
I've been using the GTD (Getting Things Done) system for a while and continue to tweak it to fit my life.  Almost every Friday I do my Weekly Review to wrap up the current week and start planning the next one.  I use this list, my bullet journal, and about an hour.  I also sync our big family calendar (that everyone writes in their things on) with my personal calendar, and add up my "spoiled spending" for the week--amount of money that I spent on things because I just wanted it, not because I needed it.  I also started tracking how much time I spent online with a Google Chrome extension called Webtime Tracker.  Needless to say, both of those categories have been eye opening.

Question for you:
If I were to ever offer an online (or in person) workshop, what would you LOVE for it to cover?  Some ideas:  Prayer Binder, Biblical Meditation, Doodling, Bible Study, or ______ (add your own idea)?  I'd love to hear what you would be interested in.  Leave me a comment below, or send me an email in the side bar and let me know!

Call for Help:
If you've ever done any of my Bible studies or I Will Meditate journals, would you be so kind as to leave me a review on Amazon?  Since I'm basically unknown, it really helps others to know if the studies are something to trust and take a chance on.  THANK YOU in advance!

Also, I've set up an Amazon page with all my favorite tools for Bible Journaling, Meditation, books, and much more to come.  You can see it here.

  2. All of the things you mention Kari! I especially feel like I need advice in prayer, either I feel like I'm at my list for a long time or not at all. There has got to be a balance! Maybe I need to figure out separating out the prayers between daily, weekly, weekends, etc. so I am not overwhelmed. Thanks!

    1. Thanks Lisa! And yes, I think separating out the prayers is a good idea to try, also other kinds of prayer for different kinds of days too. Praying Scripture is one of my favorite ways to pray, especially if I'm in a rut and feeling like I'm praying the same things about the same things. Keep experimenting and know that as life changes your prayer life will change too and be willing to be flexible. Thanks!

  3. I would love to attend one of your online workshops! How about demonstrating how you mentor with your Bible studies (or other books)? The Biblical meditation and prayer binder topics are also good and would be just as appreciated.

These are my favorite types of posts..I don't know what the official category is for them..an anthology of topics? :)

    1. I am in the middle of creating Volume 5 now! It will be over 1 and 2 Corinthians, 1 and 2 Samuel, and probably Galatians.
