Stone Soup for Five: A peek inside Elisa's Bible - The Promises

A peek inside Elisa's Bible - The Promises

Elisa emailed me a couple of pictures about her time working through The Promises Advent study last year and I loved it so much that I knew you would want to see too!  I emailed her back and asked if she'd take us on a walk through her Bible and what she did with The Promises Advent Study.  She agreed and I'm thrilled to show you her Bible!  Here's Elisa:

Since starting Bible Journaling in 2015, the Advent season has taken on a whole new meaning for me.  Now that my children are all grown it’s no longer about opening the next little door on the advent calendar. Because I am basically celebrating the season on my own (can’t get my husband excited about Bible Journaling) I had to find ways to make this time of year meaningful.  The Promises -old testament prophecies and their fulfillment in Christ was the answer.  By looking at each promise and its fulfillment, Advent became a richer experience!

I chose to mark each promise/fulfillment with corresponding tags and ribbons.  The promise is marked at the top of the page and the fulfillment is marked on the side. (Note - one thing that made this doable was prep.  I got all of my tags and ribbons ready in advance and used washi to hold them in place.)

Here are a few examples:

Here I chose to use my mad tracing skills. ;)

.

Sometimes all I did was put a box around the passage and when I remembered, I would add my advent, promise and fulfilled stamps along with the date.
.
.
.

Occasionally I pulled out my watercolor paints.

.
.
.

And once I even added a tip-in when the passage reminded me of a song.

.
.
.

What do you do when four promises are from the same passage?

Create a pocket to hold all the tags of course.

.
.
.

When time allowed I enjoyed doing something a little “extra” like these letters cut from scraps of paper.

But when I spent extra time on the promise, the fulfillment page was simple.

I hope you are encouraged to spend time in the word seeing how Jesus fulfilled the promises of old.
You will not be disappointed.

Thank you so much Elisa! Your work is beautiful, creative, and inspiring! What a wonderful way to celebrate the wonder of Jesus!

Hi Jenna, yes I use regular watercolors and they do not bleed through.
