I did it!!!
I have now OFFICIALLY read every single word in the Old Testament.
I've made it through every. single. word. Including the creation story and beginnings of everything in Genesis....
The Laws of Leviticus...
The history of Israel through the Kings, Chronicles, and Samuel...
Psalms, Proverbs...
Job and his friends and struggles...
AND EZEKIEL
(almost KILLED me! So HARD!)
And the minor prophets!!
I have been reading since May 3, 2012.
TWO YEARS!
It has been really REALLY slow, but I have been doing a few deliberate things so I can get the most out of it. Like I talked about earlier on this blog post.
I've been "ruining my Bible" by reading each page and breaking it up into chunks of verses, then writing what the sections of verses are talking about on the side of the pages, and then writing the overall summary at the top of each page. Kind of making myself a 'cheat sheet' of what each page contains.
I wasn't worried about meeting a time goal, so I just did what was manageable for me at the time.
I figured it took about five minutes a page, and I had time to do three a day.
Three pages a day, five days a week.
And it takes about 2 years to get through that way.
WHAT A BLESSING!
I feel I have so much more of a deeper understanding of God's story.
His love and compassion and forgiveness.
What a ride. Some days I would try to write a little devotional thought at the bottom of each page, but most days I'd just stick with the title at the top.
I finished on February 22, 2014
And if I keep with my schedule of 3 pages a day, I'll be finishing up the entire New Testament before the end of 2014.
I really want to encourage you to do this!
I'm no superhero.
I'm not an awesome time manager either.
I just did what worked for the time I had, set a goal, and plugged along.
It was rough at times
dry at times
and deep and rich most of the time.
SO WORTH IT!
The best time to start your Bible read through is two years ago.
The next best time is today.
That's so awesome, Kari!
ReplyDeleteI'm sold. I am starting tonight. Thanks for the encouragement.

ReplyDeleteA presenter in a Bible study class I am in mentioned having 3 Bibles to study, highlight, and mark in because he has 3 daughters he wants to give them to someday. This reminds me of that and how wonderful a gift to leave to our children of our actual Bibles we have studied from! Seeing how you do this looks like a great idea! Thank you!
