A couple of weeks ago a guest speaker came to our church and talked about living by faith in hard times, and then some practical things to do NOW before those hard times hit.
One of the things that stood out to me was when he ended with the importance of needing a "hang on" verse already memorized for when those hard times hit. Because we all know that we're not getting out of this life without hard times and rough waters.
So now, as I'm reading my Bible, I've been searching for those verses that I can start memorizing for those hard times.
Psalm 33:18-22: Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope for His lovingkindness, to deliver their soul from death and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, because we trust in His holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, according as we have hoped in You.
I've made those verses my hang on verses for now. My boys and I are working on memorizing them together. Because some day something is going to happen, and we're going to need them.
I also want to encourage you to memorize them WITH family and OUT LOUD. Because, someday when hard times hit, you are going to remember the sound of their voices saying this verse, or they might need to remember you saying it. I would love nothing more than when a hard time hits, to know my boys are saying "Remember mom always quoting Psalm 33 as our hang on verse?"
As you are read your Bible, be on the look out for verses that will help you and others "hang on" when those rough times hit. And begin memorizing it together.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
What about you? Do you have some verses already stored away for hard times? If so, share in the comments! I'm always in search of scripture to cling to!
