Stone Soup for Five: Week Review--What I'm working on

Week Review--What I'm working on

Organizing/Planning:

I tried a new way to bullet journal with a mind map/web.  It went well, I liked the layout, but I'm not sure I'll stick with it.  But that's the beautiful thing about the Bullet Journal, you can change it up to what works best for you.

I might still play with this mind map version...

But I really like just the regular old list version too.

I discovered an awesome video of a very user friendly prayer notebook that I'm working on building right now.  If you email Gina (her email is on the description on the video link) she will send you her 10 page printable with how she set hers up.  Prayer is such a weak point of my life and I really do want to improve.  I think this notebook might be the answer for me!  I'll post more after I have used it for a while.

Homeschool:

Khan academy seems to be working well for math.  I like that corrections are taken off my shoulders.  I'm still new to the program, so I'm unable to give a full report there.  But the boys don't hate it, and it gives me more time to teach on other areas they need to grow in, such as writing.

Doing writing after lunch is NOT working.  I forget, I'm tired, I'm distracted.  So this week we've switched it up and are doing it right after our morning opening time at 9am.  It seems to work better, but my mornings are FULL!

Morning openings are still tricky.  I want to cover so much, but I sat down and thought it out and realized that really, I only need to cover three basic things: read from a good book (right now we're reading aloud from 20,000 days),

work on Bible memory verses (we love this simple, quick, low stress system from Charlotte Mason), and prayer.

So instead of switching it up daily to get in current events, a devotional, a biography, a book, and many, many more things and then being overwhelmed and not doing anything, I'm streamlining and simplifying.  Book, Bible memory, prayer.  Simple. Done.

Work:

I have so many ideas. So many things I want to do.  So many directions I want to go.  I want to do ALL the things.  Learn ALL the things.  But in this season I really need to pare back and remember my focus this school year is to be a dedicated homeschooler and an excellent financial planner.  That means that work really takes a step back.  Which means, if I want to keep bringing in some sort of income, I've got to really focus and streamline (seems to be a theme, huh?)

So my plan is to come up with a schedule/routine for work.  What I'll work on each day, and where my focus needs to be.  This will be huge, and is somewhat overwhelming.  I'll need focus just to figure out how to focus (which is hard in a house full of boys!)

Hope your week is going well!
