Stone Soup for Five: Garbage food and Future Wives

Garbage food and Future Wives

I have an addiction.

I really like eating out.

A lot.

Like a "Wow, that's really bad for you" a lot.

And I don't care if it's healthy food, or garbage food (like McDonalds, etc).  As long as I don't have to cook it or clean up after it, it is DELICIOUS. (even if, really, it's not).

Does anyone else feel this way??

*crickets*

Well, yesterday I was again TEMPTED. OH SO TEMPTED. To throw my goals out the window and go anywhere for lunch.  And I could totally justify it because we had to run to the bank.

Then I realized, it was Thurs, not Friday... and we didn't have to run to the bank.

So I had to suck it up and decide on something to fix for lunch.  I lamented, whined in my head, fantasized about what it would be like to have all the money we wanted and I'd pack up the kids and say "We're going to Chuck E Cheese for lunch!"  And they'd get those super excited looks on their faces, and extol the virtues of their mother all the way to the Chuck E Cheese gates....
But I still had to make something.

Now usually, I just kinda let the boys do their own thing for lunch, but once in a while I like to make something to feel like a good mom, and I guess that day was yesterday.

I also whined to a good friend on Facebook about it:

UGH!! WHY is lunch SO HARD for me to figure out? Every. Single. Day. *head hits desk*
probably because I'd be okay with a salad, which the boys don't eat. They don't like sandwiches.... we're out of hot dogs... and tortillas.... UGH. UGH. UGH!

and then she NAILED me with her real-life-think-about-it-wisdom:

For the love of their future wives, make those boys eat a sandwich!!

Oh so painfully true!!

It's so hard to remember that I am training them in how they are going to be when they grow up to be husbands and men.  And I'm training in them that same fast food addiction, which is not only unhealthy and TERRIBLE for you, but also so draining on the wallet and my personal #1 destroyer of our budget.
I've GOT to think big picture here!!

So today I'm adding #15 on my 1000 gifts list:

15- Friends who speak the truth

(Oh, and today I DO have to go to the bank, and right before I wrote this post, I thought, YAY! Eat out day!  Then my friend's post came back and smacked me in the forehead and I thought... okay, let's pack a picnic lunch and make it a park day.  Much better.)

  2. Yes I too have an eating out addiction because I do not have to try and find something to cook that everyone likes.

I love a sandwich and fruit for lunch...Hubby always wants ME to cook something for lunch on his day off which is a drain on the pantry/freezer resources...I buy enough "lunch" stuff for the week and "dinner" stuff...and he messes up that food budget.

Picnic sounds perfect...Plus the boys will find that a sandwich in the park tastes sooooooo good.

  3. That's so funny. I've nearly lost my appetite for eating out because I find everything tastes,..I don't know,...not as good as we get at home I guess, lol. For lunch, I like to make plain pasta at the beginning of the week and then just heat it up in a sauce which takes like 10 minutes (sometimes oil and parmesan, sometimes a spaghetti-type sauce, sometimes just fresh veggies and parmesan). Also, we do a steamed potato (you can do ahead if that's helpful), then sautee with artichoke hearts (or olives or green onions or zucchini,..doesn't matter what) then serve like that or topped with a sprinkle of cheese. Just a couple of thoughts in case it helps with lunch prep one day. :) Good luck.
